چکیده

We propose coherence as a tool to quantify spatiotemporal dynamics, in particular, in spatially inhomogeneous dynamical systems. We demonstrate coherence to be an appropriate measure of predictability and, hence, spatial coupling in nonlinear systems, using analysis and via experimental results from a circular jet flow. Coherence measurements reveal sizable regions of strong spatial coupling in this spatially developing open flow, in contrast to much smaller coupling regions indicated by conventional correlation. Decaying coherence, indicating spatiotemporal dynamics, is also found in the jet, and possible physical mechanisms are discussed. In addition, the causes for coherence decay are explained analytically. @S1063-651X~97!00204-3#

Synchronization analysis of complex dynamical networks with hybrid coupling with application to Chua’s circuit

Complex dynamic networks have been considered by researchers for their applications in modeling and analyzing many engineering issues. These networks are composed of interconnected nodes and exhibit complex behaviors that are resulted from interactions between these nodes. Synchronization, which is the concept of coordinated behavior between nodes, is the most interested behavior in these netwo...

Application of the Slow Invariant Manifold Correction for Diffusion

Slow invariant manifolds (SIM) are calculated for spatially inhomogeneous closed reactive systems to obtain a model reduction. A robust method of constructing a onedimensional SIM by calculating equilibria and then integrating along heteroclinic orbits is extended to two new cases: i) adiabatic systems, and ii) spatially inhomogeneous systems with simple diffusion. The adiabatic condition can b...

A Phenomenological Study on Threshold Improvement via Spatial Coupling

Kudekar et al. proved an interesting result in low-density parity-check (LDPC) convolutional codes: The belief-propagation (BP) threshold is boosted to the maximum-a-posteriori (MAP) threshold by spatial coupling. Furthermore, the authors showed that the BP threshold for code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems is improved up to the optimal one via spatial coupling. In this letter, a phenom...

Chimera death: symmetry breaking in dynamical networks.

For a network of generic oscillators with nonlocal topology and symmetry-breaking coupling we establish novel partially coherent inhomogeneous spatial patterns, which combine the features of chimera states (coexisting incongruous coherent and incoherent domains) and oscillation death (oscillation suppression), which we call "chimera death". We show that due to the interplay of nonlocality and b...

Dynamical nuclear polarization using multi-colour control of color centers in diamond

Dynamical nuclear polarization (DNP) transfers the polarization of electron spins at cryogenic temperatures to achieve strong nuclear polarization for applications in nuclear magnetic resonance. Recently introduced approaches employ optical pumping of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond to achieve DNP even at ambient temperatures. In such schemes microwave radiation is used to establish a ...
